Raised on a farm east of Nunda, SD, I attended a one room country school, Rutland High School, and majored in English at Augustana College. I volunteered for a tour with the U S Army in Germany. After a year of teaching language arts at the Flandreau Middle School, I decided to learn how to be a sculptor and went to work at the Crazy Horse Monument in the Black Hills. In Custer I met a talented artist, who mentored me in the art of wood carving, and a female industrial arts teacher from the Marty Indian School whom I married! I now live in Sioux Falls where I carve wood and manage rental property.
