Are you ready to go to the next level in chess skill? This class is best if you have completed the elements in the "Pawn Level" - Level 1 content (or the Beginner Chess class with Elliott, Luke, Chess4life). Following the Chess4Life content, students will learn some of the most common (and powerful!) tactics in chess, helping them become proficient at capturing pieces, setting up checkmates, and learning to look further ahead (great skills that support visualization, patience, impulse control, and more!). Some topics covered include the Magic Square, Active Moves, Building Batteries, Pins&Skewers, Forks, and much more! Students can expect to build their confidence for competing in fun chess competitions as they develop these new skills! All ages welcome (under 8 with a participating adult).

*Prerequisite Pawn Level 1 or Beginner Chess4Life Class (or equivalent experience/knowledge of basics).

*To take this class, students must know how the chess pieces move, be confident on recognizing checkmate, and know the LEVEL ONE (Pawn Level / Beginner Class) concepts of castling, development, and how to do the basic checkmates with Q&R or 2 Rooks vs a lone king.

Spring 2024 Dates are Jan 19, Feb 2, 16, 23, March 1, 15 Fridays from 4:45-5:45
