Discover your poetic potential-- even if you have never written poetry. Guided, fun exercises will help you put pen to paper (no pesky technology, blue lights or cords) and reflect on your feelings, ideas, and history. With no demands on poetry form or structure, this beginners’ session will focus on the power of simple written language and your voice - designed for those who wish to capture current thoughts or look back on a lifetime of experiences and memories. Coffee and snack included to ‘feed your creativity’.

Linda Hallstrom

Linda Hallstrom enjoys writing poetry. She has worked as a high school English teacher, newspaper editor and columnist, and Community Relations Specialist for the Sioux Falls School District. She was recently inspired to share her appreciation of and passion for the benefits of poetic writing by the book "I Never Told Anybody" by Kenneth Koch. Look it up! Linda and Dr. Rosanne Kirts are also inspired by the example of Sarah Yerkes. Yerkes wrote her first poem at the age of 96 and published her first book of poetry at the age of 100. Kirts and Hallstrom believe that writing poetry can benefit anyone to become an enjoyable and meaningful craft. Yerkes referred to her new pastime as "chronic poetry" because it replaced her passion for Sudoku.
