Start at the beginning and grow from there using a ‘Win or Learn’ approach to beginner chess ... and life! This class is for all students, young and old, who would like to lay a great foundation to have fun and gain the benefits of playing chess! Following Chess4Life PAWN LEVEL (Level 1) material, students will have fun with many activities, starting with ensuring students are comfortable with piece movement, then moving into essential strategies for starting AND finishing a game! Students learn essential skills such as safe squares, threats, and pawn shields as well as one of the most important checkmating patterns to build fundamental skills needed to be ready for success in the next level. All ages welcome (under 8 with a participating adult). Learn as a family to encourage playing at home.
