ELL/ENL Methods

ENL Methods will explore ways to teach and integrate the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking in K-12 content-area classrooms for English Learners (ELs). Teachers will consider a variety of best practice pedagogical and instructional approaches, strategies, and assessment techniques. This course will include specific attention to the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol or SIOP. Class discussion will also focus on how to create and sustain a positive learning environment for ELs. Teachers will also be knowledgeable about culture, content and learning; able and willing to select or adapt curriculum and pedagogy to meet the needs of diverse learners; skillful practitioners, reflective professionals, and lifelong learners, striving to become agents for positive change in the students, school, and society.
CLASS PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of Foundations of ENL.
8 Face-to-Face sessions plus 7 Online sessions.
For those qualify, Federal Program funds will pay the SFSD registration fees & college credit fees for those who successfully complete all requirements of the workshop.
This is a 3 credit master's course. Please be cognizant of the requirements of the course and the commitment needed before you register for the class. Registering implies you understand the commitment required from you to complete the course.
Participants that do not successfully complete all requirements of the workshop will be required to re-pay the registration fees.
The ENL Coordinator will deteermine eligibility AFTER registration has closed. You will be notified before the first class.
